NDIS Funding
What Therapy Costs From Your NDIS Plan: Psychology, OT and Speech Rates Explained
The NDIS sets maximum hourly prices for therapy, and understanding three numbers puts you in control of your whole plan. Here's how the money actually works.
The price caps
Under the NDIS Pricing Arrangements, providers can't charge above set hourly caps for NDIA-managed and plan-managed participants. At recent rates, occupational therapy and speech pathology sit around $194 an hour, and psychology around $214 an hour (caps are reviewed every July — the current Pricing Arrangements document on the NDIS website is always the source of truth). Registered providers like us bill at or below these caps — never above.
Which budget pays for what
Most therapy — psychology, OT, speech, and assessments like FCAs — comes from Capacity Building: Improved Daily Living. Positive Behaviour Support comes from Capacity Building: Improved Relationships. Capacity Building budgets are locked to their categories, so therapy funding can't accidentally be spent on other supports.
What an hour actually includes
Billable time isn't only face-to-face. Report writing, therapy planning, and consulting with your school or support team are legitimately billed — they're where much of the clinical value lives. What you should expect from any provider: transparency about it. A provider should tell you roughly how many hours a report will take before writing it, and travel billing should follow the price guide's rules, not surprise you. Because we're a mobile service with local clinicians, travel is kept to a minimum — and telehealth appointments carry no travel at all.
Stretching your funding further
Blend telehealth between in-person visits (same clinical quality for coaching and reviews, zero travel). Use parent/carer coaching models — an hour that upskills you delivers benefits all week. Group where clinically appropriate. And front-load assessment early in your plan so the resulting reports support your next review rather than arriving too late to matter.
